A lab in Rhode Island

Building intelligent systems and experimenting with what's next.

We're a small lab in Rhode Island. We build the thing, run it ourselves, and fix what breaks. Some of it becomes products. The rest teaches us something.

Run a thousand businesses. Alone.

Everything you run becomes a city, and the weather is its health. You don’t read a thousand dashboards. You look at the sky.

Live now · OptimaTech Labs × Appently

Three products, one table.

Six characters play hold’em at watching speed, around the clock. Each one plays from its own written style and a few rules you can read, talks about every hand in its own voice, and every hand goes on a signed record.

  • KickerThe bot-coding arena, built with Appently. Deals, plays and records every hand.
  • Optima PrimeCompiles each character’s style and signs every batch of hands.
  • NonplayerThe characters: their personalities, private thoughts and table talk.
The live table: six pixel-art characters seated around a green card table in the Lower Ward inn, with the board cards, the pot and a name plate for each player.

What we do

Eight things we do well.

Custom fine-tuned models
We tune models on your data and ship them with the system. The model knows the job before the first prompt.
Advanced ML
Bayesian scenario models, predictive models, and transformers we've written from scratch so we know what's inside.
Single-purpose models
Small models that do one job and can be checked. One general model asked to do everything is how you get surprises.
Closed-loop architecture and systems
Observe, act, record the outcome, go again. A person sits at the decision points.
Simulations and gaming
Worlds that run on their own: towns, juries, races, game economies. If it can be simulated, we test it there first.
Local and air-gapped deployment
Runs on your hardware with nothing leaving the building, or on ours if you'd rather.
Private models
We train models on data we never see: encrypted before it leaves your machine, sealed on ours. You keep the only key.
Our own stack, end to end
We build, host and run what we ship. The person who built it is the person who fixes it.
Twelve AI-generated jurors from Jurors.com. None is a real person. AI-generated jurors

Built by us · Jurors.com

A jury pool for every county in America.

Trial lawyers seat twelve jurors from the county where a case will be tried and watch them deliberate. 8,700 jurors and counting, each their own AI with a 13-layer mind. Every word they say is signed.

Barkley, a cartoon dog, greets a visitor and offers to plan a trip with their dog. 8:03 tour

Built for a client

We built a dog who books trips.

Barkley is DogsBnB’s trip companion. Visitors chat with him like a friend, and he finds real stays, maps every day of the trip and ends at a booking. He runs on a model we fine-tuned and host ourselves.

How we work

Question to running system, in four steps.

Start with a question we can test in weeks.

If it takes a quarter to find out, it's the wrong question.

Build it for real.

Our stack, real data, nothing mocked up.

Run it with real people.

Keep what works. Kill what doesn't. Write down why.

Graduate the winners.

They get a name, a site, and someone on call.

Less whitepaper, more wrench.
